Fortune Favors the Bold

fortune

When was the last time you went up to someone you admired and told them that you are happy to have them in your life? I'm not talking about that girl who you are secretly in love with from your business class, or the guy with all the snide remarks in your language class. What I'm talking about is approaching someone that you have a relationship with, friendly or otherwise, and telling them exactly what it is that you like about them and that you are fortunate to have them in your life.

See, we live in a society where telling someone that you like the photo they put up on their Facebook last night earns you "creeper status," being nice to someone of the opposite sex makes you "flirty," and it's way easier to hide behind your phone as opposed to actually walking up and interacting with someone.

I am asking you to go out and be different. In a good way. Get your face out of that smart phone of yours, and smile at the person walking past you. Talk to your professors in class. Make a new friend, or ask that special someone out on a date! Be bold! I don't want you to live another second wishing you had the courage to do something that you want to do in this life because sometimes you only get one chance.

My entrepreneurship professor here at William Woods, David Forster, taught me something my freshman year. He said, "The three most pointless emotions are guilt, worry, and fear of failure." Fear of failure is the one I would like to focus on. Let me put this into perspective for you - lets say that you walk up to someone and ask them to grab coffee with you sometime, the worst thing that could possibly happen is that they say no. In that situation, you have lost absolutely nothing, you're still in the same shoes you had on before you asked, and the only thing that has changed is that you did what you've always wanted to do. You may get shot down, but you were brave! That's what really matters.

Allow me to proclaim my everlasting distaste for all that is pessimistic. You don't have time for negativity. While the rest of the world tries to bring you down, you'll be soaring through life accomplishing all of your wildest dreams. All because you took that first step, that one small leap of faith that let you know that you could accomplish all of your wildest dreams and goals. Anything is possible for you!

Life is full of beautiful moments. Every day may not be good, but there is good in every day. Always remember: things always happen for a reason, it's your job to find out what that reason is.

Peace and blessings, friends.
