How to be “Cool” in College

Greetings, friends!

It's been a while since I last came to you. The year 2016 has been a fast paced, productive, and thus far rewarding year. The Owls' baseball season is in full swing as well as the other spring sports and the seniors (including me) count down the days until we enter the workforce and pursue the dreams that we've worked all these years to attain.

I was doing some thinking today on what makes people "cool" in college, and I had a few thoughts that I believe to be of interest to those entering college, beginning their journey, or really any life transition.

In college, you'll find yourself in a lot of social environments. Among those environments exist the leaders and supposed "cool kids" who are admired within that realm. All of these people will attempt to set the standard for "coolness."

You are as cool is Snoopy and Woodstock, believe me.

You are as cool as it gets.

At times, you may feel insignificant because you might not know much about the topic of conversation. My message is simple: You are as cool as it gets. There are things that you know a lot about and interests that you share with a lot of people. I beg of you, please never let yourself feel insignificant or as if you have to conform to someone else's standard of "cool."

Being authentic is the coolest thing you can do.

Already feeling better? Me too. Being confident in who you are is a dying art among our generation. I challenge you to lead the charge. Be authentic, express yourself, and share your interests. You never know who you might inspire.

As always,

Love, Peace, and Chicken Grease.

5 Things I Love about William Woods!

Choosing your college is important and you have to find the best fit for you as a person. Here are some things I love about William Woods:

1.Small Campus

Being on a small campus can be really irritating because you think everybody knows your business. But it really isn’t! The woods is small enough that you can walk past pretty much anybody and say hi. What more do you want walking to an 8 am class and someone walking by saying hi to help make your day.

2. Short Walks

We are lucky that our campus is basically in one big circle, the longest walk to class is no longer than 5 minutes (depending on how fast you walk).

3. Friendly Faculty and Professors

This was a big fear of mine being an international student. I was anxious to see what my professors would be like. From my freshman year to now my final senior semester, all professors and faculty have been extremely kind and helpful. My first encounter entering William Woods being scared and afraid was with Dr. Venita Mitchell. She helped me overcome me being homesick and adjusting to life here and I will forever be grateful.

4. Dulany Library

The library’s basement is the best place to lock yourself away from civilization and just concentrate on reading a book or doing your homework. It is like a little maze, you could get lose but it is the most peaceful place.

5. Junior Lake

The Lake is a perfect getaway to relax either sunbathing in the hot weather or kayaking with friends. You can relax at the dock, play sand volleyball or just chill and watch.

Let me know if you want to know all the other things I love about WWU!

Have a great rest of your week!

6 Essentials Every College Girl Needs

Are you wondering what to pack before you come to college? I have the 6 essentials that you will need!

1. Leggings- these are your option when jeans just aren’t working for you. They are comfortable and you can wear them pretty much with anything. BUT please make sure they are opaque!

My favourite look- leggings and Tennis shoes

2. Crew Neck Sweatshirt- like leggings, these are very comfortable and look even better if you show off your school spirit. You can buy WWU sweaters from the logo store in the McNutt center!

3. Jeans- perfect because you can dress up or down with them. Skinny jeans can make you feel like Tyra banks and there all cuts, shapes, sizes to flatter ANY body.

4. Oversized Hoodies- great for the nights when you just want to relax around your residence hall and feel comfortable. They also look good with leggings and jeans!

5. Tennis Shoes- I only wore tennis shoes when I worked out at home. Since coming to America, I have bought 5 pairs over the 4 years. These shoes are perfect to slip on when you’re running late for class and they also look great with jeans and leggings. It just depends what type they are!

6. Sweat-Pants- these are your best friend when you’re having a lazy day. You’d be surprised about how many people do actually rock the sweat pant look daily!

I hope this helps folks. My style had to be altered when I came to America; everything is so relaxed and free. You can basically rock anything and nobody will judge you!

Happy Holidays ☺

5 Fun & Fattening things to do on Thanksgiving Break!

When I first came to William Woods 4 years ago, I had no idea what Thanksgiving was and what I was going to do for nearly a whole week! I am an international student, as you already know, so flying home would be difficult.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Over the years, I learned some fun things to do, which I am going to share with you!

  1. Dine with faculty! There is always that one professor who is kind enough to ask you to join them for their Thanksgiving. I was so flattered! I love our professors!
  2. Feast with friends! I have had so many offers every year to go home with one of my friends.
  3. Relax on campus! If home is too far, you can cook up a nice Thanksgiving meal in your residence hall!
  4. Travel regionally! If you have some spare pocket money and want to go see other states, go and do it! Chicago is not too far away, and you can get a train from Jefferson City, La Plata, or St Louis!
  5. Earn some cash! If you want to earn some extra money, you can stay and work on campus with the equestrian program! NO classes, just working for money!

I hope this helps in future and I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving! I sure did in Fulton with my second family!
